Homemade Mayonnaise

I would like to share this homemade mayonnaise from Diana Bauman at Spain-in-Iowa.com recently discovered while browsing the net. You will need the following:

Grapeseed Oil
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Eggs
Lemon Juice
Salt
Dijon Mustard
Whey (optional - if you want it to last 2 months)

Directions
1. Combine 3/4 cup grapeseed oil with 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil and set oil mixture aside
2. Add eggs (one egg and one egg yolk), 2 tbsp lemon juice, 1/2 tsp salt and (optional for taste) 1 tsp Dijon mustard to a blender and blend for a couple of seconds
3. Slowly drizzle oil mixture into blender while blending again until oil and all ingredients are fully mixed
4. That's it. However, never make your mayo on days when there is an electrical storm. It's an old tip, but it works. The materials will not set up properly if made when lightning or heavy electrical activity is present.

This lasts for 3-4 days. For having it last 2 months, you'll need to add whey.

If you only need a single serving, break down the ingredients into smaller proportions. Experiment to find out the proper ratio of each ingredients. I am sure whatever your purpose in making this homemade mayonnaise will still compliment the food you are making thou it may not be perfect.

No water

Suddenly, the water no longer comes.

The last couple of weeks I have noticed sand sitting in the bottom of my washer and the toilets after each use. It’s not that much but evident of it’s presence. I wonder where they came from. We have a well that supplies our water through the years as we lived in the country. And then last night, the water went off. That means there will be no water this morning to start the day fresh because with no water comes no shower, no brushing teeth, no washing of any kind and no clean toilet. It stinks!

It made me think of how important water becomes especially when there is none. Over the years, the deep well has served us well. My husband thinks our well may have gone dry or the water table is so low the pump was sucking only sand and it burned up! The deep well was our source of hydration, from home to garden. How are we going to live without water? It made me sad just to think of no water...

So, I'm sitting here waiting, inside the house hoping for some good news. He came in the house after checking the well and said to me " It is time for a new well." And just like that, he left with no word from me as it was disappointing in my ears. On the other hand, one good thing he did recently some trade work for a well digging company and end up with a newer and deeper well dug. All we need are the pipe and accessories to get this done and so we will have water. I don't know how many days it will take to get it finished. But this is something to look forward to...

I can't wait for that day. From now on, we will always remember to save water and use it sparingly. The importance of water is slowly creeping in our brains, understanding how hard it would be with no water on hand. It became obvious to me that water needs our respect!

Generation Gap

One evening a son was talking to his father about current events. He asked what he thought about the shootings at schools, the computer age and just things in general.

The dad replied,” Well, let me think a minute…I was born before television, penicillin, polio shots, frozen foods, Xerox, contact lenses, Frisbees and the pill. There was no radar, credit cards, laser beams or ball point pens. Man had not invented pantyhose, dishwasher, clothes dryers, (clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air) electric blankets, air conditioners, and he hadn’t walked on the moon.

Your mom and I got married first – and then lived together. Every family has a father and a mother and every boy over 14 had a rifle that his dad taught him how to use with respect. And they went hunting and fishing together. Until I was 25, I called every man older than I , “Sir” – and after I turned 25, I still call the policemen and every man with a title “ Sir”.

Sundays were set aside for going to church as a family; helping those who are in need, and visiting with family and neighbors (I miss that most). We were before computer-dating, dual careers, daycare centers and group therapy. Our lives were governed by the Ten Commandments, good judgment and common sense. We were taught to know the difference between right and wrong and to stand up and take responsibility of our actions. Serving your country was a privilege, living here was a bigger privilege.

We thought fast food was what people ate during lent. Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with your cousins. Draft dodgers were people who closed their front doors when the evening breeze started. Time sharing meant time the family spent together in the evenings and weekends – not purchasing condominiums. We never heard of FM radios, tape decks, CD’s, electric typewriters, yogurt, or guys wearing earrings. We listened to the Big Bands, Jack Benny, and the Presidents speeches in our radio. And I don’t ever remember any kid blowing his brains out listening to Tommy Dorsey.

If you saw anything with “Made in Japan” on it, it was junk. The term “making out” referred to how you did on your exam. Pizza Hut, McDonald’s, and instant coffee were unheard of. We had 5 & 10 cent stores where you could actually buy things for 5 and 10 cents. Ice cream cones, phone calls, rides on a streetcar, and a pepsi were all a nickel. And if you didn't want to splurge, you could spend your nickel on enough stamps to mail 1 letter and 2 postcards. You could buy a new Chevy Coupe for $600, but who could afford one? Too bad because gas was 1 cents a gallon.

In my day, “grass” was mowed, “coke” was a cold drink, “pot” was something mother cooked in and “rock music” was your grandmother’s lullaby. “Aids” were helpers in the Principals office, “chip” meant a piece of wood, “hardware” was found in the hardware store, and “software” wasn’t even a word. And we were the last generation to actually believe that a lady needed a husband to have a baby. No wonder people call us “old and confused” and say there is a generation gap. And I am only 55 years old….

Hensley's Mfg direct Metalroofing

Hensley's Metalroofing

Manufacturing Metal Roofing panels mostly for commercial, industrial building and dairy farms as well as housing projects. Today's technological advances in building materials have made it both practical and economical to use pre-painted metal roofing panels combination for homeowners, dairies, construction sites and commercial use available in different colors and length.

Description

Metal Roofing is available in a variety of materials. These metals bring a combination of strength, flexibility and longevity that will compliment any home, building and dairy farms.

If you are planning to replace your roofing, metal roofing would be the best solution. With metal roofing, you have no worries. With it's longevity, it is one of the top reasons why choosing metal roofing for your homes and farms can be stress free. Few homeowners realize the fact that metal roofing can actually be a good investment for a home. Metal roofing typically lasts 50 years with little maintaining and also adds beauty to your home with colors available to choose from. When properly installed and the correct configuration, metal roofs can save you a lot, too. Aside from the longevity and durability, metal roofing saves cost in the long run and is dependable.

Consider the Possibilities of Prepainted Metal Roofing

Low Life Cycle & Durability:

High quality pre painted metal roofs afford an attractive life cycle cost in addition to their many other advantages. They will not crack, shrink, or erode, making them a long lasting alternative to many conventional roofing materials.

Choices of Design Appearances & Color:

The homeowner can achieve the "designer" look with a wide selection of styles and colors. The aesthetically unique roofs will likely have a positive influence on re-sale.

Weight:

Pre-painted metal affords a very lightweight roof for both new and re-roof applications. Structural savings can be realized when compared to some heavy weight alternatives.

Installation Over Existing Roofs:

Pre-painted metal can usually be installed over existing roofs. Disposal of old conventional materials can be difficult and costly. The use of pre-painted metal can often solve this problem.

Fire Resistance:

Consider the fact that metal doesn't burn! Non-combustibility should offer protection from external hazards such as wind-blown sparks or lightning when properly grounded.

Wind Resistance:

Properly installed pre-painted metal roofs should not need periodic repair or replacement due to wind damage or storms.

Water Absorption:

Properly installed pre-painted metal roofs do not absorb water or moisture. Water can damage most other roofing materials by rotting, cracking, or in the freeze-thaw cycle.

Snow & Ice Shedding:

Pre-painted metal readily sheds snow and ice, a distinct advantage in high snow areas.

Sound Deadening:

Rain noise on a metal roof is not a factor when proper installation and insulations are used.

Recoatability:

The color of a pre-painted metal roof maybe changed to coordinate with new color schemes of siding and trim. Repainting can also lengthen the life cycle of a metal roof, resulting in a positive influence on long term life cycle cost. Many other materials may require replacement and costly disposal.

Energy Efficient:

Consider the radiant heat reflectance of light colored metal in warm climates, resulting in savings in cooling costs.

What a night to remember

An elderly woman was sitting and hunched over with her purse and lantern (yes an LED lantern) in the median a stone's throw from Island View Casino, one of the busiest crossing just passed Hwy 49.

She was in the middle of the ROAD! I thought I was going to throw up my dinner when I saw her on the road.

I think God put me and my husband at the right time and the right place for the elderly lady, Hwangtze'i Noguoyen. She is a Vietnamese 85 yr old lady who doesn't speak a word of English other than "understanding" the word name.

I was driving on the left lane when I saw just to my left a black mass. I didn't realize it was a person until I was about two arms length from it.

She appeared very disoriented and very lost, Bless her heart. I can not fathom how she ended up in the middle of the road alone like that, but she was coherent just not in English. A lady and I helped her cross the street to a more safer side walk to get help. I walked inside the casino to find someone who can speak Vietnamese to help us out. And was a big no too.

Anyway, long story short, we got the paramedics and GPD (Steven) involved. Not until I suggested we check her purse for any information. YES! It was me who suggested to check her purse, after trying to sensibly speak to her with no avail for half an hour. I finally got a hold of a prescription bottle with her name and her address on it and *Thank You GOD* a phone number.

In fact her family was desperately looking for her in Pass Christian. I spoke to her son and thankfully he spoke English and explained to him that their mother will be driven back to their house in a police car.

I was so heartbroken for her, I can't imagine my old folks alone and lost like that. My heart told me to keep the lady safe and make sure she's not scared. She was shaking the whole time I was holding her hands. Even after I tried putting the seat belt on her in the back seat of the police car, she didn't want to let go of my hands. I gave her a hug and told her she is going to be alright. She finally smiled and bye bye bye bye. (second English word she said the whole night)

And Thank you God, for your love. For keeping the lady safe and for putting us there to be with her.

What a night!
